You don't need to know what you want to do
in order to use us. It is never too early (or
too late!) to come in and consider what you can be doing now, to give
yourself the best chance of getting what you want for your future.
Come in and have a look
round, you'll find us at 33 Buccleuch Place. Our opening
times are listed on our website. No appointment is necessary
and there is always someone on hand to help. Our friendly reception

How we can help you |
The Careers Service allocates careers advisers to each School within the
University. For Moray House your advisers are Matt Vickers and Janet
Forsyth. Here are some of the things that we help students with...
- Part-time,
summer and graduate jobs - are advertised on
SAGE (Student and Graduate Employment), our online jobs database
updated daily.
- Volunteering
- can be rewarding, great fun and help (or even be essential) to your
future career!
- Job
hunting - helping you understand where to look
for different kinds of jobs (they aren't all on the internet
or in newspapers...)
- CVs,
application forms and interviews - not as straightforward
as you might think - but not impossible either with a bit
of preparation and help. Remember to get an adviser
to have a look at drafts of your CV, application form or covering
letter - see "Speak to
a careers adviser" below.
- Options
with your degree - find out what other people
from your course at Edinburgh have gone on to do, as well as
links to national data and a helpful "Options" fact-sheet.
- Researching
what jobs involve - either related
to sport , or something completely different! N.B. Many
graduate recruiters don't specify a degree subject, so you
could choose to go into accounting, social work, advertising...
or lots of other career areas you may not have considered.
- Career
planning - with so many options open to you
it is better to plan rather than take pot-luck, so use these
resources to help you get started.
- Further/postgraduate
study - you may want to carry on taking your
subject to a higher level, or to train in another area - anything
from journalism to teaching, or an evening class in pottery!
- Gap
year possibilities - want
to travel or do something different after uni? We're happy to
help you with your plans and ideas.
- Workshops
and events - we run a programme of events each
semester designed to help you find out about careers, improve
your skills and meet employers - everything from workshops
and presentations to careers fairs.
- Speak
to a careers adviser - with so many options
open to you it can all seem a bit confusing - even daunting
- so we are here to help. Careers advisers are available
daily for short queries (10-15 mins) with no appointment necessary,
or you can book a longer appointment (45 mins).
- Changing/leaving
your course? - we
can also advise on the career implications of moving to a different
course and help you plan your future.
