She has had a varied career including gift wrapping for the Queen Mother in Harrods, emigrating to America to work in New York, returning to the UK to work in the probation service and then spending 15 years running her own exhibition and conference organising companies. She has set up and run a successful designer knitwear business, established and trained within World of Work for 18-24 year olds on behalf of the Job Centres, taught 'computing for the terrified', designed CVs for the unemployed, assisted with literacy and numeracy training, spent 4 years as industrial liaison officer at the University of Stirling and currently runs a designer jewellery business (http://www.monteverdedesigns.com) as well as acting as a custody cell visitor. In 1988 she founded a charity for AIDS orphans and their grandmothers in Kenya (http://www.directlink.org.uk) and has run and expanded this ever since. Her son, Max, lives in Rome, with his family, and Pam enjoys visiting them once or twice a year.
