Introduction

In education, equality is everyone’s business.

School leaders are required to ensure that policy and practice promote inclusion and address inequality. Teachers are learning to integrate social and emotional well-being and active citizenship into their planning and delivery.

All young people can expect their learning environment to support them to develop confidence, self- worth, resilience and respect for others. They can also expect to learn within an environment that acknowledges diversity, where it is everyone’s responsibility to challenge discrimination.

The Centre for Education for Racial Equality in Scotland (CERES), at the University of Edinburgh, offer a wide range of high quality, practical and informative CPD courses to support schools and teachers as they work to create and sustain such a positive learning environment. Our tutors are teachers and/or school managers with a great deal of practical experience. Courses are designed to ensure they complement the principles and outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence.

For leaders and managers, courses provide in-depth knowledge and understanding on which to build whole school development.

For classroom practitioners, courses are firmly based in the realities of planning, teaching and assessment. They offer practical advice on how to translate broad and aspirational guidance into specific learning experiences.

We hope you will enjoy browsing through this brochure and we look forward to welcoming you on one of our courses. The booking form is at the end of the brochure.

Best wishes,

Dr Rowena Arshad
CERES Director
