Programme Structure of the BSc (Honours) Sport & Recreation Management

Each year of the degree programme consists of 120 credits. In years one and two the student will be required to complete 120 credit worth of courses, 80 of which are core courses, and a further 40 credits from a range of options. These choices may be within the College of Humanities and Social Science depending on the interest of the student and logistical availability. In the third year, the students will undertake 100 credits of core courses and 20 credits from a range of options.

In the Honours fourth year, students undertake a core programme in sports and recreation management, including a dissertation. An additional 40 credits is chosen from the available options. It may not be possible to offer all optional choices every year.

The programme incorporates two possible exit points one year apart. A Degree is awarded after successful completion of three years of study (360 credits); an Honours degree is awarded after successful completion of 4 years of study (480 credits). To continue at Honours level it is recommended that students attain an average mark of at least 50%, in the third year. The Honours award recognises the students' ability to demonstrate synthesis of knowledge and academic skills developed throughout the award.

Options (40 credits required)
Business Studies 1 is highly recommended to all Sport and Recreation Management students. Only attempt Sport Science options if you have a sound background in a 'hard' science subject. Alternatively there may be suitable half courses available in another Department in the College of Arts and Humanities, for example Economics, Accountancy, Politics, Modern Languages, Social Anthropology, European History, Social History, Computer Literacy, Scottish History, Marketing, Social Policy, Human Geography, Physical Geography. Option courses will need to fit around the core programme timetable and will be subject to availability of places and in some cases entry requirements.

Sports Development or Coaching Children or Contemporary Issues in Sport and Education or Promoting Physical Activity.
