Departmental Programmes
The department of Education & Society offers two Masters programmes in Education,
each of which has a distinctive rationale and purpose. Students can choose
from programmes of study which focus on: (a) education as a cultural practice
in a social and political context - MSc
Education; (b) educational research
with a view to progression to advanced research work - MSc
Educational Research. Other programmes that offer a high degree of
professional relevance are available in the School of Education. These
are shown in the Degree
Regulations and Programmes of Study using 'Browse by School' (The Moray
House School of Education).
The study of education in its social and political context through
the analysis of key debates within the academic and policy communities.
It offers a Scottish, a UK and an international perspective on education,
in which research evidence, theoretical debate and policy analysis are critically
examined, developed and applied to a wide range of issues in education.
This degree can be taken over one year full-time or up to three years part-time.

One of a series of specialist research training Masters degrees in the
University. This free-standing degree is also recognised as a first year
for doctoral study. This degree is suitable for candidates coming from education,
social sciences, arts or other disciplinary backgrounds.
Note: This MSc is recognised
as 'Research Training' by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)
