Connecting Education: Launch of New JANET Networks
Rachel Harris represented SCROLLA at a recent event to launch the new JANET Networks in Scotland. The launch took place at the Stirling Management Centre, University of Stirling, on 28th October.
Entitled 'Connecting education', the event provided an overview of recent initiatives and developments that are working to optimise the use of the Internet for learning. Speakers included Susan Kozicki of LT Scotland, who discussed issues associated with connecting community learning programmes. Jim Buchan outlined recent and forthcoming developments that are part of the Digital Scotland Initiative. While John Connell of the Scottish Executive Education Department, gave an update on plans for SPARK [site to be launched in late Nov 02] and Scotland's National Schools' Intranet. Other speakers included Jean Ritchie from the RSC Outreach Project and Edinburgh University; Helen McNamara of the Scottish University for Industry; Wolfgang Greller from Lews Castle College and UHI; Bill Harvey of SHEFC; and Michael Turpie from Perth College. The role of SCROLLA in providing a research service to Scottish agencies in the area of online learning and assessment was highlighted in Rachel's presentation [Microsoft PowerPoint file, 100K].
