Coimbra Group Workshop on ICT and Student Mobility

Jeff Haywood and Rory Ewins of SCROLLA Edinburgh helped organise a two-day Workshop on ICT and Student Mobility held by the Coimbra Group in Leuven, Belgium, on 4-5 March 2004. The workshop brought together experts in the field, staff from Coimbra Group universities, and members of European Commission and national government agencies involved in this area.

The workshop explored some of the questions raised by increased student mobility about the use of information technology and the Internet in university teaching. How do we support students who move to study—before, during and after their time away—and how might ICT help? What examples do we have of effective practice in this area? What can we do to make it easier for potential students to sample the courses they might take, and what is involved?

Speakers included Wim van Petegem from host institution the Catholic University of Leuven, Domingo Sánchez Mesa from the University of Granada, Anthony Baldry from Pavia, Jeff Haywood from Edinburgh, Allessandro Colombi from Bologna, and Diana Slevin from the Open University.

The report on this workshop contains several short papers by the presenters, along with notes on discussions and findings by workshop delegates. It was edited by Rory Ewins, and is being presented to the Coimbra Group General Assembly in Siena by E-Learning Task Force Chair and SCROLLA Co-Director Jeff Haywood. It is available here in PDF format:
