SCROLLA Symposium 2: Research into Computer-Assisted Assessment

SCROLLA held a one-day symposium at the Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, Riccarton Campus, Edinburgh on Wednesday 6 February 2002. This was the second in a series of symposia organised by the centre.

The symposium addressed current issues and research in computer and web-based assessment. The focus was on the underlying theory and implementation of good automatic assessment coupled with an insight into some current investigations and developments in this field. The result was a day of abundant ideas and lively discussion.

We were fortunate to have the following speakers:

  • Sally Brown, Institute of Learning and Teaching in York
  • Niall Sclater, Strathclyde University
  • Robert Harding, University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate
  • George McGuire, Martin Youngson, Heriot-Watt University
  • Douglas McMillan, Scottish Qualifications Authority

Roy Leitch of Heriot-Watt University gave the opening address.

The sessions led by Sally and Robert closed with comments from a select panel before open discussion. The two work-in-progress sessions led by George, Martin, Douglas and Niall had a short question and answer period after each.

The presentations can be viewed from the timetable in either html format or in rtf format for the symposium.
