The Internet has changed the world. These changes cannot be viewed in isolation any more than the invention of the printing press can be considered separate from the traditions of the scribes it replaced. The innovation marks a watershed but is not entirely separable from the technologies of the past.
In this site I contend that the Internet for its numerous strengths has serious implications for the authority of text, and the dissemination of knowledge.
To that end I have identified a metaphor from the medieval world for each strand of my argument. To continue the theme I have added the Library section for notes and bibliography, and the Rules of the Game section to discuss assessment criteria. The audio components can be accessed by clicking the audio buttons usually located below the main image of the page; they provide a commentary on my motivation and personal approach to the assignment. I wanted to ensure my assignment made full use of the multimedia modes of transmission including images, text, audio and music.
My metaphors accessible via the welcome page are:
The Alchemist’s Chamber
The Biblia Pauperum & Poor Man’s Bible
The Memory Palace
The Palimpsest
Accessing each page will indicate the purpose of the metaphor and its relevance to the subject matter or argument.
