Introduction
The Edinburgh Centre for Mathematical Education (ECME) was established in October 1984 to support the learning of mathematics at school and university, to provide support courses for teachers and to undertake research in mathematical education. The merger with Moray House Institute of Education in 1998 provided opportunities to build on previous co-operation, to enlarge the community of researchers and strengthen links with schools. The Centre acts as a focus for mathematical education in the University.
.
The main activities of the ECME are to:
conduct research into the Teaching and Learning of mathematics.
ensure that pre-service Teacher Education students are aware of current issues in mathematics education.

provide a forum for debate into teaching and learning of mathematics through seminars and the Mathematics Teaching Conference.

contribute to the development of Continuing Professional Development within the mathematics curriculum.

promote good practice in mathematics teaching, including the effective use of technology in the teaching and learning process.
