Educating for a Sustainable Future - Study Guide

Introduction

MATERIALS

The materials are divided into a printed Study Guide and text and visual support resources on the Web. Activities in the study guide are keyed as follows:

Instruction or support materials

Individual question or task

Group activity

Throughout these materials we will refer to environmental education as (EE) , to describe what has been happening in some primary schools to date and education for sustainability (EfS) to describe the model which integrates the social and economic environments with the natural environment, outlined in Figure 1.5.1. Sustainability addresses Agenda 21 commitments arising from the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992.

CASE STUDIES

Reflecting on your own experiences and the experiences of others is a very important way of contextualising learning and giving it relevance. However care should be taken not to mention specific placement schools by name in written exercises in order to avoid the possibility of unintentional offence.
