About  Higher & Community Education


The department of Higher & Community Education is concerned with teaching, research and scholarship in three broad areas of lifelong learning:

Community Education – centred on pre-service first degree and postgraduate certificate programmes and in-service courses for professional community educators.

Management of Training and Development – mainly through provision of a postgraduate MSc programme.

Higher Education
– where the focus is on all aspects of teaching and learning in higher education. An integral part of the Department is the University’s Centre for Teaching, Learning and Assessment (TLA). The Centre’s main role is to assist the University in its goal of achieving high standards in teaching and learning.

E-learning – the department offers an innovative, fully online MSc in E-learning aimed at those working, or aiming to work, in post-compulsory education and training.
