Congratulations
to a number of Moray House BEd Primary Education students who have successfully raised £1600 towards the British Heart Foundation Scotland's Edinburgh
and Lothians Heart Nurse Appeal
Motivated by the tragic death of their friend
and fellow Moray House BEd student, Ashleigh Hughes who died in 2008 aged 20,
the group decided to plan a fundraising event for the BHF Scotland.
One of the Moray House fundraisers, Louise Davis, commented that 'heart disease
is something that we have all heard of but recent personal experience has
shown us that it is a real issue that really does touch all of us, and it can
affect anyone'.
The group organised a disco at the Pleasance Student Union Cabaret
Bar on Saturday 21 February aiming to raise £500. The fact that this target
more than tripled reflects the effort of all students and supporters who helped
make this event a success.
Louise added that 'we're really pleased that this money
can go towards the Edinburgh and Lothian's appeal to provide a Heart Failure
Nurse Educator' and 'as we're going into teaching ourselves it feels right
that this money should go towards educating people'.
Dr Jim O'Brien, Head of Moray House School of
Education, commented that 'this tremendous achievement by the students will
help many others suffering from heart disease in Scotland and acts as a great
tribute to Ashleigh'.
The Moray House fundraising students were: Emma Barrie,
Karyn Blake, Lorna Campbell, Louise Davies, Laura Houston, Lindsey Hughes,
Erin Hunter, Mark Lambert, Joanna Mitchell and Claire Pringle.
