The descriptions below explain further about the different exit points for postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma, and MSc courses.
Postgraduate Certificate
Postgraduate Certificate level study is ideal for students who have some practical or work experience in the outdoors or related area but limited theoretical knowledge. The programme is designed to provide a theoretical basis for gaining an understanding of the field and developing professional practice. Certificate level study is also appropriate as an introduction for those who wish to gain an introduction to the field of learning outdoors and who may already (or intend to) work with people in the outdoors. Students on Certificate programmes can also elect to take optional practical courses.
Postgraduate Diploma
Postgraduate Diploma level study is for those who wish to gain a comprehensive training in the field. Through the six academic courses and the substantial practical Professional Development Programme students are prepared for reflective practical teaching and skills and knowledge for further study. Whilst many students enter the programme with the Diploma as their planned exit point, others do so after completing the Postgraduate Certificate.
Master's (MSc)
The development of the first Master's degrees in the field available in Europe was a natural consequence of the long tradition of outdoor education at Moray House. Master's level study provides a broad perspective on a now more mature sector and has already stimulated considerable research interest through published Masters dissertations and academic articles. The programme is suited to those who wish to gain the full academic and practical experience of the Diploma pathway but who additionally wish to complete a deeper research study. The programme is also ideal for those wishing to continue to Doctoral study.
