Each of the four sessions will take the form of a 30-minute presentation and then 30 minutes for questions and further discussion. The presenters are all Outdoor Education PhD students from the University of Edinburgh and are at varying stages of their research:

Paul Stonehouse: The rough ground of character: A philosophical investigation into character development on a wilderness expedition through a virtue ethical lens.

John Telford: Investigating long-term influences of residential outdoor education

Ralf Westphal: A comparative study on the nature of contemporary personal and social development schemes in Norway / UK outdoor education.

Angela McKay: Research into Venture Trust programmes with marginalised young people.

Information

The forum will be held in room G21 of Paterson's Land, Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, Holyrood Road. There is no charge for attendance, however, knowing numbers would be helpful. Please contact Sarah McNeil (sarah.mcneil@education.ed.ac.uk) if you plan to attend.

For information regarding directions and travel to the venue see our contact page. Regarding accommodation there are several nearby hotels listed below and a link to Tourist Information. A link for information about shuttle busses from the airport to the city centre is also provided. All car parking near to Paterson's Land is metered. The 'cheapest' option is the NCP car park just off Holyrood Road.

Complimentary tea and coffee will be available on arrival, and during the breaks between presentations. Lunch can be purchased in the University café, Paterson's Land, or locally at a number of venues.
