Edinburgh, a coastal city, is located in the south east of Scotland and is well served by a variety of transport networks, affording easy access from within Scotland, other parts of the United Kindom, and from Continental Europe and the rest of the world.

Getting to Edinburgh

Rail

Edinburgh is well served by the national rail network. All trains arrive at Waverley Station in the centre of the city. Example journey times by train to Edinburgh from:

Air

Edinburgh Airport has regular scheduled services to a wide range of destinations across the British Isles and Continental Europe. It is also well served by connecting flights via British and other European hub airports to almost anywhere in the world.

Car

Edinburgh is well connected to the UK trunk road and motorway network. The University of Edinburgh is accessible by car but in some areas parking is limited—please contact The University of Edinburgh Parking Office on +44 (0)131 650 2238 or email Parking@ed.ac.uk.

The Central Area of the University is based around Chambers Street, Nicolson Street, and from the North by following North Bridge into South Bridge.

The King's Buildings Campus can be accessed by following the A701 from from the City Bypass (A720) until it becomes Mayfield Road. Entrance gates 3 and 4 can be found on Mayfield Road with entrance gates 1 and 2 on West Mains Road.

Visitors using the A1 can approach the University following the City Bypass (A720), turn off at the A701 junction until it becomes Mayfield Road (The Science and Engineering School) and continue straight ahead until through Causewayside until you reach the central area.
