Perception-Movement-Action
Research Centre (PMARC)

|
PMARC was established in 2006, has shared
laboratories in St Leonard's Land (at The Moray House School of Education,
The University of Edinburgh), and organizes regular research seminars/workshops.
The Centre brings together research expertise from Bio-Medical
Sciences, Informatics, Linguistics, Music, Neuroscience, Psychology,
Sports Sciences and Physics at the University of Edinburgh, and
from other universities, world-wide, including Brown University,
USA; University Granada, Spain; University Groningen, Netherlands;
Harvard University, USA; Katholicke University Leuven, Belgium;
University Massachusetts, USA; University Minnesota, USA; University
Pennsylvania, USA; Queen Margaret University College; Queens
University, Belfast; University Campus Bio-Medico, Rome; University
Strathclyde; Norwegian University Science and Technology, Trondheim;
University Uppsala, Sweden.

Research Objectives
The research objectives of PMARC are:
- To carry out world-class experimental/theoretical research into
perceptually guided movement - the foundation of meaningful action,
interaction and communication in our world.
- To study perceptually guided
movement in skilled performance and in development, learning
and rehabilitation.
- To investigate natural movements, such as reaching,
gesturing, walking; learned movements, such as in sport, music,
dance and speaking; and intrinsic movements such as in controlling
breathing and blood flow.
- To integrate research on perception-movement-action
in fields such as biological systems, biomechanics, child development,
music and dance, neuroscience, motor control, physics, physiology,
psychology, robotics, speech, sports science.
