Project Title: Developmental Dyslexia and Implicit Learning in Primary School Children: Is there a case?
Supervisors:
Dr
Joanne Williams and
Dr Louise Kelly (Psychology, PPLS)
Research
topic:
My work focuses on the implicit learning processes in primary school children who have been diagnosed with, or are in suspicion of having, dyslexia. Dyslexia has been associated with numerous specific deficits in different domains. By focusing on implicit learning, which is the learning taking place without awareness, more generic learning abilities are explored in children with a dyslexic profile. I attempt to elucidate the possibility of behavioral manifestations of dyslexia resulting from general deficits, in accordance with the current view of dyslexia as being neurobiological in origin. Much of my work makes use of the Artificial Grammar Learning Task as the experimental paradigm of choice.
