Disabled People:
An in-depth
case study

work of the
Calvert Trust

Professional
experience:
John
has worked in a range Outdoor Education environments
including private, public charitable and military
sectors. For the past 17 years he has specialised
in working with people with disabilities and has been involved with the development
of activities, equipment and programmes to increase participation by this population.
He has been involved in advising the National Governing Bodies of particular
activities on inclusion of people with disabilities and providing training for
Centres and instructors wishing to develop their work this field.

John
holds a wide range of National Governing
Body awards and continues to participate
in many activites. He is a Trustee of the
Institute of Outdoor Learning, RYA Sailability
and BHPA Flyability. He is a member of the
BCU National Disability Committee, BMC Equity
Advisory Group, Association of Heads of Outdoor
Education Centres and Adventure for All and
sits on the Lake District National Park Local
Access Forum.
John has a BEd (Hons) in Outdoor Education
and is an Accredited Practitioner of the Institute
of Outdoor Learning. He is currently undertaking
research into the benefits of Outdoor Education for people with disabilities.
