Postgraduate
Certificate in 3-14 Physical Education
This exciting new programme is being
developed at a time when children's physical education, sport and
physical activity are areas of increased political, professional
and academic focus. The Scottish Executive's commitment to two hours
of curricular physical education for all children aged 3-18 and the
creation of an additional 400 physical education teachers (Scottish
Executive, 2004) are excellent examples of this change in emphasis.
As a result, the Scottish Executive Education Department (SEED) has
commissioned the University of Edinburgh to develop this postgraduate
programme
to help registered teachers develop a specialism
in physical education.

Programme Description: This programme is a two-year part-time certificate

- Course 1: 3-14 Physical Education: Setting the Context
- Course 2: The
Early Years Physical Education Curriculum
(ages 3-8)
- Course 3: The Upper Primary / Early Secondary Physical Education
Curriculum (ages 9-14)
