Abstract

A preliminary analysis of the social and economic impact of sporting estates.

This work reviews published literature on highland sporting estates and develops themes associated with the rationale for the existence of such forms of landholding. It further explores the relative economic and social contribution of this form of recreation (hunting, primarily of deer and grouse) and other forms of recreation which use the same space (eg mountaineering and hillwalking).
