Abstract

In Scotland, since the mid-1990s there has been a marked increase in interest from policymakers in the setting up of early intervention projects. These projects have been aimed at preventing early reading failure and have been targeted at children attending schools situated in areas of socio-economic disadvantage.

This research project gathered both quantitative assessment data, and qualitative interview, diary and questionnaire data from a cluster of 6 primary schools and 4 nursery schools taking part in a self-initiated and self-funded project.
