Abstract |
The
aim of this ongoing evaluative research project is to assess the
successes of the initiative undertaken by a secondary school (KGS)
to re-vitalise the learning and achievement of their pupils through
a substantial curriculum reorganisation.
In phase 1 an exploration of the perceptions of the pupils, teachers
and parents to the first stage of the reorganisation was undertaken.
These curriculum changes related primarily to the reduction of the timescale
of the S1 and S2 years of the curriculum to one year, and the entry of
the pupils to the Standard Grade courses in S2. The evaluation in this
phase was mainly qualitative and involved extensive interviewing of a
sample of primary school liaison staff, secondary teachers, parents and
a group of pupils selected for longitudinal study. Questionnaires
extended the data collection which distinguished between the consultation,
planning, development and implementation stages. Classroom observations
were a significant strand in the data collection. |
