Abstract |
The
aim of this ongoing evaluative research project is to assess the
successes of the initiative undertaken by a secondary school (KGS)
to re-vitalise the learning and achievement of their pupils through
a substantial curriculum reorganisation.
Phase 2 of the project has as its focus the changes planned and implemented
in the fourth to sixth years of the school curriculum. The rates of pupils
staying on in S5 and S6 were at the lower end of the statistics for schools
in this geographical area of Scotland. The aim of the initiatives taken
by the school following the curriculum acceleration experienced by the
pupils in the first three years of their secondary education (see phase
1), was to offer pupils an extended choice of subjects relevant to their
interests and educational aspirations including vocational education.
The aims of the research were: to evaluate aspects of the planning and
processes of development of the new courses; to assess the impact of
the quality of and approaches to learning and teaching in Standard Grade;
to evaluate the implementation of the new S4-6 curriculum and its impact
on the school, pupils, teachers, partner providers and parents; and to
ascertain the impact on pupils' attainment, progression, and preparedness
for post schooling engagement with education and training. The methodology
was as in phase 1. |
