Abstract

The project aims to evaluate the impact of the establishment of Xhosa-English dual-medium instruction from Reception Year to Grade 9 on acquisition of Xhosa and English, cognitive development and academic attainment in a rural school in Eastern Cape province. Results will be compared with attainment of pupils in an early exit programme and in an English only programme.
