Abstract |
Research
under this theme primarily considers education systems of the 'South',
particularly Africa. It is concerned with the way that national education
and training policies and practices are influenced by international
forces, including aid and globalisation. It also is concerned with
understanding trends in development cooperation discourse, policy
and practice through a critical engagement with a range of major
aid agencies. Current interests in this regard centre on the emergence
of a new aid discourse of knowledge for development. This is being
examined through comparative work on the bilateral development agencies
of Britain, Japan and Sweden, as well as the World Bank. In conjunction
with the Centre of African Studies, the research group on international
and comparative education is at the core of the long-standing NORRAG
network, bringing together researchers and policymakers North and
South to discuss trends in education and training internationally.
Through NORRAG, the group is engaged in a range of advocacy and consultancy
work in the field of education and development. The group also maintains
an interest in the methodology of international and comparative education.
