Reseachers and examples of projects

Within this theme, research is undertaken which investigates the nature of additional support needs and broad approaches to social inclusion within school, post-school and workplace education. Some of this research takes place within the Centre for Research in Education Inclusion and Diversity, and involves collaboration with colleagues in the departments of Educational Studies and Higher and Community Education. Inter-disciplinary work involves colleagues in other disciplinary areas such as Social Policy, Sociology and Politics within Edinburgh University and with universities in other parts of Scotland, the UK and Europe. A number of development centres (e.g. the Communication Aids for Language and Learning Centre, the Scottish Sensory Centre, the Centre for Education in Racial Equality in Scotland, the Scottish Traveller Education Programme, the Scottish Anti-Bullying Network) host research projects and collaborate with others on studies which contribute to the evaluation of existing practice and the development of innovative ways of working. Research projects in this area have been funded by the ESRC, the Scottish Executive Equalities Unit, the Scottish executive Education Department, the European Union and voluntary bodies such as the NSPCC.
