Abstract

Addressing violence in schools is clearly on the policy and political agenda, in the UK, Europe and beyond, with an international expert in the field observing that: ‘violence in schools has become a major preoccupation all over the world’ (Debarbieux 2003: 582). The aim of this research is to review and integrate what is currently known about violence in mainstream schools, across the 4 countries of the UK. The project output will be a BERA ‘Insight’, intended for a broad and heterogeneous audience (e.g. policy, practice and research communities). As a consequence, this ‘Insight’ will be written in a user-friendly and accessible style.
