Abstract

This project has been collecting and sharing information on the educational performance of most deaf pupils in Scottlsh education since 2000. A wide range of information on the educational achievements and circumstances of deaf pupils is collected in yearly surveys that take accont of new developments and changes in policy and practice.

Achieving return rates of over 95% annually, the dataset uniquely allows for the over-time tracking of individual performance and circumstance. The project provides added value by producing aggregate statistics which can assist local authorities in auditing their duties towards deaf pupils in the area.

The core project is enhanced by smaller scale projects. Currently these include: the development of a standalone database used for administration and monitoring at service level; additional sub-sample surveys targeting teacher qualifications and the home situation of deaf pupils respectively, and a collection of interviews focussing on deaf pupils' perceptions of the education they receive(d).
