The Research Support Office (RSO)

The Research Support Office (RSO) of The Moray House School of Education was established to strengthen the research infrastructure of Moray House by co-ordinating information about school research, and by providing central support for research activity among academic colleagues. The RSO works with two sub-committees of the School Research Committee to distribute School funding for grants to attend research conferences and to provide seed-corn funding for pilot research projects and 'writing-up' support for CRS. It provides assistance and advice on external research funding and also organises research seminars and disseminates research information to colleagues. The Research Support Office also has available a small amount of research equipment and resources, designed to supplement what is already held in departments.

The office is directed by the Associate Dean (Research), assisted by the Research and Development Officer (Sandra Orr), part-time Senior Researcher (Jane Brown) with secretarial support provided by Clare Guymer.

Responsibilities of the RSO include:

    • Answering staff queries relating to research and research funding
    • Dealing with general external requests for research information
    • Providing advice and circulating information on research funding
    • Encouraging the submission of research grant applications
    • Ensuring good communication between the office and Heads of Subject Areas and Senior Researchers
    • Organising the provision of central research resources:
Adobe Acrobat file Books and Adobe Acrobat file Equipment
    • Organising central research support/training
    • Maintaining databases relating to publications, research grant proposals and submissions, available to colleagues and outside bodies
    • Checking the acceptability of research applications in terms of School ethical approval, and referring these applications, where necessary, to a sub-committee
    • Administering research conference travel applications:
Adobe Acrobat file Conference Travel (information for staff)
    • Preparing documentation and databases for the RAE:
      Adobe Acrobat file Research Publications
    • Processing applications for research ethics approval:
Adobe Acrobat file Research Ethics (information for staff)
