Introduction

I am a sociologist of education and social stratification with a strong interest in quantitative methods. In April 2000 I was awarded a PhD in Social and Political Sciences at the European University Institute (San Domenico di Fiesole, Florence). Between 1999 and 2007 I was a Research Fellow in the Centre for Educational Sociology where I was involved in a number of national and international projects on youth transitions and social mobility.
