Biographical Note

I studied English, Sociology and Social Policy at undergraduate level, before working in housing and studying at the Glasgow Centre for Housing Research for 2 years. I then worked as a teacher in a senior secondary school in Botswana before returning to undertake a PGCE. I subsequently worked in a multi-agency team with teenagers at risk of exclusion from home, school or community. Later, I worked as a Principal Teacher of Guidance in a mainstream secondary school. My PhD focused on exploring the experience of disciplinary exclusion from the viewpoint of those excluded and the generality of pupils. I teach on both post-graduate and under-graduate courses and this work focuses on issues of social justice in education and the links between policy and practice.
