Principal
Interests
I am interested in the educational policies, immigration and labour market. Specific areas are:
- educational attainment of ethnic minorities and migrantsinstitutional determinants of educational attainment educational policies and international migrationschool to work transitions (including school to work transitions of immigrants) labour market inequalitylabour market attainment of ethnic minorities and migrantsimmigrant impact on the labour market outcomes of British population
- quantitative research methodology, advanced statistical methods

Biographical
Note
I
obtained my DPhil degree in Sociology from
University of Oxford for dissertation "Socio-economic Inequality
in an Immigrant Absorbing Society" in 2007 and my MA degree in Sociology
from University of Haifa, Israel, for dissertation 'Internal Migration
of Resent Immigrants' in 2000. Since 2004 I've been a Research Fellow in
the Centre for Educational Sociology, University of Edinburgh.
Current and Recent Research
Currently
I am a principal investigator of the ESRC funded project "Understanding
Immigration Labour Market Impact in the UK", which is a part of the
ESRC Initiative: Understanding Population Trends and Processes - A Secondary
Data Analysis.
My new ESRC-funded project, commencing in early 2009, is entitled "The educational
attainment of migrants in comparative perspective: the importance of institutional
factors". The overarching aim of the research is to establish the significance
of institutional factors, including the education system, on the educational
attainment of immigrant pupils in a range of different countries.
Before that I was a ESRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow and also worked
in the ESRC funded project "Education and Youth Transitions in England, Wales and
Scotland 1984-2002," (with L Croxford, D Raffe, K Iannelli, C Howison,
J Ozga).
