Profile

Pat McLaughlin is Head of School at The Moray House School of Education and Dean of Postgraduate Studies for the College of Humanities and Social Science. He is also Head of the Graduate School and a Senior Lecturer (based in the Department of Education and Society) at the The Moray House School of Education. Pat has contributed extensively to school research training.

Areas of research interest include:

    • Outdoor education and experiential learning programmes;
    • Sociology of education, particularly in relation to institutional research/evaluation on higher education and professional practice;
    • Social issues and social problems, focusing on alcohol/drug issues, and vulnerability, with particular reference to policy/responses

Recent research projects in which he has been involved include an International study of the characteristics and value of the sail training experience and studies of outdoor residential education.
