Biographical Note

The first ten years of my career were spent getting people lost in the wilds of North America and Southeast Asia - all in the name of the participants' personal development (and mine too!). Since completing my PhD on Overseas youth expeditions, I have become more concerned with how people learn about "place" by undertaking journeys within their local communities. I am also interested in using social theory to examine outdoor learning practice.

Current and Recent Research

Outdoor Journeys: Investigating this school-based programme that involves students planning and undertaking journeys from their school grounds.

Overseas youth expeditions: Continuing contributions to the body of theoretical and empirical literature that is informed by, and (hopefully!) informs, practice.
