BEd (Honours) Design & Technology

This four-year programme enables students to teach design and technology in secondary schools. The programme develops key areas of the teacher's skill range such as technological capability and knowledge and understanding of the nature, principles, and processes of education which affect and inform learning and teaching practices.

Courses included in the programme


The 1st year the programme comprises of:

Education 1A and Education 1B, which includes a school placement
Product Design 1h, this or the following course could be replaced by one from the College of Science and Engineering
System Design 1h
Technological Activity 1h
Technology Teaching 1h

In the 2nd year the programme includes:

Education 2, including a second school placement
An Industrial Placement in the summer term
Product Design 2h, this or the following course could be replaced by one from the College of Science and Engineering
System Design 2h
Technological Activity 2h
Technology Teaching 2h

The 3rd year programme is made up as follows:

Education 3h
Placement 3
Technological Activity 3h
Technology Teaching 3

And the 4th Year comprises of:

Education 4 which includes a major Dissertation
Placement 4
Technological Activity 4h
Technology Teaching 4h or a choice of half course
